FLOWER POWER IN NAMIBIA

It is green and blooming in Namibia!

Madeira is known as the «Flower Island» in the Atlantic. And as we have heard from friends that were there in the spring, it must be very nice when it is in bloom and green.

At the moment, however, you don’t have to fly to Madeira (or Amsterdam) to stand in a sea of flowers. At the moment you can see that in Namibia too. After the heavy rains, which fell mainly around Windhoek and in the south of the country, it blooms here like in Madeira or in the greenhouses of Holland. On our trip to the Kalahari foothills in southern Namibia, we came across meadows that had turned into a sea of flowers. This splendor of flowers can be heard almost every day on the radio and read in the Allgemeine Zeitung. Here it is not only reported where it rained and how much, but also where which flower is blooming. (We experienced this in Japan as well twelve years ago, at the time of the cherry blossom!)

PS. We saw beautiful lilies. But there are also planes that are full of yellow flowers up to the horizon. As I was told, these are called «Morgensterne!»! (As Swiss we understand this to mean something completely different …)
