«INDIAN SUMMER» IN SWITZERLAND

Autumn in Switzerland!

About a year ago we experienced for the first time in our lives the Indian Summer in northern Canada. We were carried away by the splendor of colors in the immense forests. A few weeks later, while driving through Washington State, the first snow fell and the blaze of color was over within a few days – everything was buried under a white blanket. This only changed when we got to Seattle and came across the Puget Sound and later the Pacific coast.

Now, in autumn 2020, we are experiencing another wonderful Indian Summer. Not in the immense forests of North America, but in the Limmat Valley, near Zurich. Even if there is a lot of industry here, there are still many forests in the area and – in the Weiningen region – also vineyards. And the leaves are currently turning in beautiful colors. We hope that it will stay that way until we fly to southern Africa at the beginning of November. To where the birds are drawn when it gets cold and uncomfortable in the Northern hemisphere …

PS. The origin of the word Indian Summer is unclear. The word creation could be derived from the main hunting season of the North American Indians in autumn, but also from the favorable weather, which favored attacks by the Indians on settlers before the onset of winter. (Source: Wikipedia)
