ON THE ROAD AGAIN …

Last Instructions!

55 years ago, I drove with my friend with a Vespa 125 from Basel to Stockholm and back. After that I drove cars. I only sat on the pillion seat a few times on a motorcycle. That changed today …

After Charly had seen yesterday that I was sitting on his BMW 1150 GS, which he was warming up, he animated me and Markus for a motorbike tour. Markus drove a Suzuki 750 at a young age; I was a novice! If that will work? Charly suggested that we drive to La Barca, where there is a Taco stand. We would have breakfast there and then drive back …

I woke up at 5 am this morning. I couldn’t fall asleep anymore. It went through my head what Charly had explained to me the night before. How I have to change gears and brake. Where the turn signals are. And how I operate it. At 8 o’clock we got into the motorcycle clothes, put on boots and put on the helmet. (I felt like an astronaut!) Charly drove the motorcycles onto a flat stretch of road. I got on the saddle and drove off first – under the watchful eyes of the others. The first hundred meters in a zigzag course, then I switched to second gear, then to third, fourth and fifth. What a feeling of rushing through the landscape …

A quarter of an hour later we reached the Taco stand. Helmet off! We sat down at a table and let us serve Tacos and water. Then we drove back to Atotonilco at 100 km/h. On the Road again: Canned Heat

PS: «Let the motorcycle drop if you feel you can’t hold it» was Charly’s advice. I did that when I drove too slowly up the steep driveway at home! Fortunately, apart from an aluminum part, nothing was damaged …
