ROBERTO: THE ALLROUNDER

A truly versatile Host!

My grandfather was a farmer in the Emmental. My father was a gardener in Basel. My brother ran an Electricity supplier in Solothurn. Brigitta worked in the Investor Relations department at Swiss Life in Zurich. What connects everyone is that they know what to do with their hands. Mine are suitable for writing; but not for much else. As soon as I pick up a spanner, something goes wrong. Or something breaks. I have learned to avoid this and not to take any tools in hand. This works fine as long as I have someone who knows how to use spanners and other dangerous tools. That was my brother on previous trips; now it’s Brigitta.

Roberto is an all-rounder and the opposite of me. When he’s not building a wall in the river to divert its course, he’s installing a new irrigation system, cutting trees, installing showers, or continuing to build on his house. And when he’s hungry, he cooks something. We now know that Roberto can sing as well. What could be nicer than lying in a hammock under the starry sky, listening to Mariachi music and drinking a Corona beer.

PS. Roberto is also an artist. With large stones formed by the river, he built sculptures that would be worth exhibiting! (Here he stands in front of one of his favorite sculptures: an owl!)
