TYPICAL FOR NAMIBIA: DROEWORS AND BILTONG

Lekker!

What Bündnerfleisch (dried meat) is to the Swiss, the Biltong is to the Namibians. Biltong is dried and flavorful meat from beef, springbok, kudu, eland and even oryx. We both love this specialty like most who come to Namibia. The first thing we do in Windhoek is to buy Biltong and Droëwors and fill the fridge with them and with Windhoek Lager. Equipped like this, we are ready to hit the road …

Along the roads that lead through Namibia and on which we explore the country from east to west and from south to north, we repeatedly come across Padstals (Farm shops) that offer Biltong or Droëwors. One of the better known is along the B1, on the route between Swakopmund and Windhoek. We were told that this is where the best Biltong can be bought. That’s reason enough to stop and replenish the supplies of dried meat every time we drive past it.

PS. If you want to know how Biltong and Droëwors taste, you can order these Namibian specialties here:  Wilhelmstal Padstal (Instead of a Windhoek Lager, you can also drink a Guinness!)
