French Guiana

French Guiana is an overseas department and a region of France in the size of Austria. It is located in the north of South America on the Atlantic Ocean between Brazil and Suriname and is a fully integrated part of the French state and thus also part of the European Union. The Euro is legal tender. 90% of the country is covered with tropical rainforests. The vast majority of the population lives on the coast, where the largest cities are located. The climate is tropical.

ESA operates the Center Spatial Guyanais spaceport in Kourou with the French space agency. There, the launchers Ariane, Soyuz and Vega launch communication satellites and other payloads. The spaceport is the main pillar of the economy of French Guiana. (Source: Wikipedia)
