A DOG’S LIFE: POBRECITO

My Name is Pobrecito!

He is not young. He is not beautiful. He is a little dog; a mix from the streets! But he is lucky that Roberto offers him asylum. Since he’s been here, he’s hardly left his side. If Roberto sets off to check the sprinkler system, he follows him at every turn. If Roberto stops, Pobrecito stops and looks at him faithfully with his brown eyes.

If Roberto drives away with his old, rusty Ford F150, the dog runs after him in the dust – as long as he can. Then he returns with hanging ears, stays at the gate and whines that we only feel sorry for him. Later he comes to us and lies in the shadow of Mahangu. Not to the delight of the two cats, who have to look for another place.

A few days ago, Roberto gave Pobrecito a first swimming lesson – in a Mexican way. He threw the dog into the large pool. There he swam a few laps until, with his last strength, he found the exit and the stairs. Roberto said that the dog should be able to save itself. If he didn’t do that, he wouldn’t be worth saving!

PS: I asked Roberto why he is doing this. His answer: «Es un perro del rancho y no una mascota como los perros en Guadalajara! ¡No tengo tiempo para cuidarlo cuando cruze el rio con él!»
