SAND INSTEAD OF WOOD

A Sea of Sand!

At home, in Switzerland, where our house is situated, the forest stretches out in front of the door. It looks completely different in Swakopmund, where we are staying at home.

The house in which we currently live lies on the edge of the dunes that extend in the southern part of Swakopmund to this settlement and the Atlantic. From the terrace you have a fantastic view of the huge sand dunes, which shine in various colors during the day. In the morning they are usually under a blanket of fog that is later burned away by the sun. Towards evening they change the color to various shades of red, until they later turn black as night. It is a unique spectacle …

The road to Walvis Bay, around thirty kilometers away, runs between the dunes and the beach. There we will pick up Mahangu at the beginning of next week, who – after a journey of several weeks – will (hopefully!) arrive on a container ship.

PS. If the «South westerner», a strong wind, is blowing, you can taste the sand between your teeth in Swakopmund. A good reason to wash it down with a Windhoek lager: Namibia Breweries
