Tiputa Pass: Heaven for Divers!
I have already written that Rangiroa is a paradise for divers. And also that our bungalow is right on the famous Tiputa Pass. But what does it look like underwater here? Since I don’t experience that personally, I let Brigitta have the floor to tell about one of her fantastic dives:
«Sisi, a Danish girl and Marc, an American met at the Rangiroa Dive Shop. Alex, the French dive guide who has worked here for eight years, used a model to explain where we will dive. Then we got into our wetsuits. Diving tanks, weight belts and the rest of the equipment were driven to the pier.
A rubber dinghy was ready and Fufu a Tahitian was waiting for us on board. We got in and shot off towards the Tiputa Pass. After ten minutes we were at the dive site. Last instructions from Alex, then we dropped backwards into the water and dived twenty-five meters into the Big Blue. The view was excellent. What we also saw: Barracudas, white tip, black tip, silver tip and gray sharks – all over a meter long. And then a large manta sailed through water below us.
Later we met dolphins who came to play with us and poissons à canne. (Note from Paul: We eat these and tuna every evening prepared in different ways.) The most beautiful, however, were the many colored fish that nibbled on the corals: Napoleon, doctor, unicorn and parrot fish. I felt like I was diving in an aquarium.»
PS. Note from Paul: «If this were to describe a fish dish, my mouth would water …»
