NANA FENUA *

Goodbye French Polynesia!

(* Goodbye Tahiti!) Yesterday we arrived in Tahiti, coming from Rangiroa. We waited at the airport for our flight. Outside, on the tarmac, stood the Air Tahiti Nui Boeing 787 (Dreamliner) which should carry us to LA. («Nui» stands for large – the regional airline that flies from island to island is called Air Tahiti). The plane is sprayed in different shades of blue and has a white Tiare on the tail unit – the national flower of Tahiti.

We are only now realizing that this month on the islands of French Polynesia is drawing to an end. Gone are the views of blue and turquoise lagoons. Gone are the delicious fish dishes that we were served every evening. Gone the bike rides through shady palm groves. Gone are the waves lapping on the sandy beach! Gone are the evenings, when we watched the sun sinking in the South Pacific while savouring a cold Hinano beer …

We are happy that– in times of Covid 19 – we were able to make this detour! Now we are looking forward to a few days with Charly in Atotonilco. And for the delicious bread! (Nothing against the baguettes, if they are fresh and crispy. But they are only for a short time and then they go limp …)

PS. As a reminder of this wonderful time in French Polynesia, Brigitta wears a pearl necklace around her neck. And I have two cans of Hinano beer in my luggage
