Finally on board of Air Tahiti Nui!
Yesterday evening I asked at the Air Tahiti Nui counter in Pape’ete why the flight had been canceled the day before. The answer: «Pas assez de passagers». We can understand that – even last night the plane was only a third full as well. Yet we have trouble to understand not being informed in advance. (An email to Ari Tahiti Nui is due – maybe there will be a free flight back – smile!)
At the check-in counter, we had another surprise! We were informed that we had to show a ticket from Mexico to Switzerland! Why? Because the Americans want it that way. «La Mexique est très proche des Etats-Unis», we were told! (Trump thinks maybe he owns Mexico too!) I almost freaked out, but Brigitta took it easy. She sat down behind her PC and booked the flight from Mexico City via Amsterdam to Zurich for September 16th, 2020. After she showed the confirmed flights, we were able to check in! (This is how it works today in times of Covid 19.)
After a quiet eight-hour flight, we landed this morning in LA. The airport is still as dead as it was a month ago. A lot of restaurants closed and there isn’t even water at the drinking fountain!
PS. Now we are waiting for the flight to Guadalajara, where we will arrive at 8 pm. There we grab a taxi and drive to Atotonilco to see Charly. He will provide us with a «nightcap». We’ll need it after we were travelling for 21 hours …
