Ecky is also an excellent cook!
During our first visit to Omaruru we met a lot of interesting people. In this friendly village of almost 8,000 inhabitants, you will soon know each other. Above all, the Whites know each other – they are mainly Germans and Swiss – who got stuck here or moved here. (Amazingly, there are also a few French who got lost here!)
Ecky’s full name is Eckhardt Mittendorf, but here in Omaruru he is best known under his nickname. He is the owner of the Omaruru River Guesthouse, where we stay for a week before we will set off on February 1st, 2021 on a tour to the south of Namibia. We were warned that the gravel roads suffered a lot from the heavy rain. The positive is, however, that the salt and clay pan in Sossusvlei is filled with rainwater. Something like this doesn’t happen every year in Namibia!
PS. The nationality can also be identified by the drinking habits: We drink beer with Ecky and other Germans. With Pierre, a French, pastis or wine. And every now and then we drink water or Appletizer (Apple juice) too!
