VERSATILE APPLICABLE: BAOBAB

A peaceful place to rest!

Baobabs are one of our favorite trees. They grow in Africa (including Madagascar) but also in Australia. We have seen and admired them on both continents. So much so that Brigitta packed a young Baobab in a cardboard tube and sent it from Australia to Switzerland! (If the tree continues to grow like this, then we will have to get a bigger garden!)

These trees just look impressive – this one stands in northern Angola. No wonder there are so many stories about the baobabs. Hollowed out tree trunks serve as a water reservoir, grave, prison, stable, toilet, post office, cold room, milk shop and even as an apartment.

They have already served us as a place to stay several times on our travels through Africa. It is nice to rest in the shade of a baobab. And you feel safe exept when an elephant comes by and rub against its thick trunk …
