Who watches Who?
Our journey through the Caprivi Strip took place in the rainy season. Like last year, we didn’t get too much rain. And if it rained, then only for a short time. After that, the air was clear, the rain clouds cleared and the sun shone from a blue sky.
In the rainy season, animals appear that are otherwise less likely to be seen. For example, the snakes! At Mavunje Camp Brigitta encountered a two-meter-long python on her way to the toilet. That means she was lying on a branch in a tree under which Brigitta walked! What a beautiful animal! And a useful one at that, because snakes eat mice and rats, among other things.
However, we had more fun with the chameleons that we encountered. In the rainy season, they leave their burrows in the ground or their place in bushes and trees to look for mates. For those who are interested, here is more information about these fascinating scaled reptiles.
PS. We have read that the chameleon turns particularly striking colors during courtship. But we humans also put on our best clothes when looking for a bride…
