Putting the ball
We have received many visitors from Switzerland in the last few weeks and have not found time to practice golf. As soon as we were alone again, Piep and Matz, the two sparrows, kept us busy because we had to feed them every one and a half hour. (These two will soon be fledged; and we expect they will fly away in a few days!)
But we haven’t put golfing aside. In the meantime, we received some clubs from friends and Brigitta found two putters at a brilliant shop where you can sell items or buy them cheap. These are the clubs you need for putting – that’s when the golf ball disappears in the hole. Or should disappear! (As you see, we’ve already learned a lot of golf jargon too!)
Speaking of jargon: There is also the expression «Hole in One». Even veteran golfers don’t do that very often. It simply means that the golf ball finds its way into the hole in one shot – and often over a long distance. We practiced that some days ago. However, Hole in One. was not the order of the day for us, but «Hole in Ten»! But practice makes perfect – we don’t give up!
PS. A veteran golfer watching us putt today called out to us: «Don’t learn to play golf; you will be frustrated like me !» Was the man right?
