OFFSPRING ON THE GOLF COURSE

Are they learning Golf as well?

No no; we’re not talking about us here, but about the elegant, long-legged springboks that have made the golf course their home. We’ve heard there are over fifty of them enjoying themselves on the greens. Before dusk – or during the day if they wish – the springboks can leave the golf course through open gates in the fence surrounding the golf course and lose themselves in the Swakop River.

At the moment, however, the springbok is increasingly to be found on the golf course. Where we – still – practice teeing off and putting. (We are already Pro on the mini-golf course, which is right next to the golf course!) But we are not giving up and have already booked a golf course for beginners during our Swiss stay.

A couple of days ago we heard from a couple we are friends with that the springbok have offspring. Of course, we had to see that. So, we laced up our sneakers and headed out onto the golf course early in the morning – for us that’s currently 7:30 am. For once without clubs but with the camera at the ready. What we got to see was more than worth for getting up early!

PS. The springboks seem to enjoy placing their dung in front of the holes, which many golfers don’t like. It doesn’t matter to us, because most of the time we don’t hit the hole anyway…
