A MOUNTAIN HIKE WITH MANY HIGHLIGHTS

In the background looms the Altels (3'630 müM)

We knew that Kandersteg is a paradise for cross-country skiing. However, we haven’t gotten to cross-country skiing yet. In mid-March, when we arrived here from Namibia, the trails were no longer white, but green! We now enjoy the hiking opportunities all the more.

Kandersteg has more to offer than the famous blue lake or the lake Öschinen. For example, the Gasterntal, which can only be reached on a narrow gravel road and in one-way traffic, and with a vehicle that is better small and handy. Or the Allmenalp, whose valley station is only a fifteen-minute walk from us. (However, that didn’t stop us from driving there. That in the opinion that we would still get enough hiking – that’s how it was!)

In five minutes, the cable car took us up to 1,725 meters. At the top we heard Ah’s and Oh’s from the foreign visitors in reaction to the breathtaking panorama. The paragliders, whose launch site is near the cable car station, got ready to take off back down into the valley. We strapped our backpacks on our backs, grabbed our walking sticks and set off. The hike back to the valley should take two and a half hours. It took us an hour more as we kept stopping now and then to enjoy the stunning views…
