A VISIT TO THE LIDO

What more do you want?

Living in a place that also attracts tourists has many advantages. One is, for example, that there are two grocery stores in Kandersteg that are also open on Sundays from 7 am to 7 pm – you don’t even have that in Zurich! Here, at the foot of the imposing Blüemlisalp massif, there is also an artificial ice rink, tennis courts and even a lido.

We first noticed this outdoor pool during a hike in April; when we walked the panorama trail. Four hundred meters above Kandersteg we saw the deep blue swimming pools of the beautifully landscaped complex. Even then we were very keen to go for a visit; but the outdoor pool was not opened until Pentecost.

When the time came, we packed our swimming trunks and made our way to the outdoor pool. The display board showed that the water is 26° warm – it is heated by the district heating system, to which the school building is also connected. Tarpaulins that are drawn over the pools at night ensure that the water does not cool down too much.

After many, many years, we enjoyed being in a lido that we only shared with a few visitors. The fantastic view of the snowy mountains all around was the crowning glory of this visit!

PS. No wonder the swimming pool is also an attraction for tourists visiting Kandersteg in summer.
