AS GUESTS ON A DAIRY FARM

What a place to camp!

What did people do before without the iOverlander? Well, back then, travelers would sit together in the evenings and exchange tips. That’s over today. Today, travelers get information on travel apps like iOverlander, where other travelers give their tips.

For example, the one, that shortly after the Troutbeck Resort there is a Dairy farm that is run by Debby, a 60-year-old Zimbabwean woman. She lives with two dogs and a cat in a house surrounded by a beautiful garden. That’s one thing. The other thing is that you can buy fresh milk and cream, milk tart, cheesecake and other fine things there. And then you can park your vehicle in the sumptuous garden.

After enjoying a fine English tea at Troutbeck Resort, we set off for the Dairy on October 24th, 2023. There we were happily greeted by Debby, Angela and the two dogs. We parked Mahangu in the blooming garden. The air was thick with scents that you would otherwise only smell from a perfume bottle. And then the milk tart – it was simply delicious.

In the evening we sat with Debby in her living room by the fireplace and listened to what she had to tell us. Not always pleasant things, as everyone who knows the recent history of Zimbabwe knows…
