Tight, tighter, tightest!
The last time we were on the Ameib was over twenty years ago! So, it was high time we visited this guest farm in the Erongo Mountains again. We did this on a seven-day trip that also took us to Etosha National Park.
On Friday, January 19, 2024, we left Swakopmund. On board was our kitten, which we dropped off at the Gecko Ridge Lodge. She has been living with us in our house in Swakopmund for two years. However, if we are away for a longer period of time and cannot take her with us, she goes on vacation there. (Pets are not allowed in the national parks!). After a farewell meow, we set off.
Two hours later we reached the Ameib. The previous owner died a few years ago; but her house is still standing. And the environment with the huge boulder, Bull’s Party, hasn’t changed. We drove to the Leadwood-Umbretta camp, which opened just two years ago and can accommodate one vehicle only. The entrance to the camp was narrow, very narrow – there would be no way for a 6×6 truck to get through.
PS: The camp, in the middle of mighty boulders, offers shade – with temperatures around 40° C you appreciate it. (The temperature difference between Swakopmund and the interior is fifteen degrees!)
