A peaceful place until...
I hate alarm clocks because they wake you up in the morning. But what I hate even more are car alarm systems. Why?
Well, that’s how it is: If you’re traveling the Etosha, you’ll spend the night in a rest camp. There you don’t stand nearly as close together as on a campsite in Europe; but you meet a lot of tourists who are traveling with their 4×4. And they usually know the car as little as they know the country they are traveling through. As a result, alarm systems go off in the middle of the night, which can only be silenced after a few minutes because the driver does not know where and how to turn them off.
Something similar happened to us a few days ago when we were travelling in the Erongo mountains with friends from Zurich. The two bought a Toyota with which they want to travel southern Africa in the next few years and went on a test drive with us. Now they just have to figure out how to turn off the alarm system to avoid waking us up at 6.30am to sirens wailing – smile!
PS. First of all, Brigitta switched off the alarm system on the Pajero that we bought last year to avoid waking people up at inopportune times!
