A landscape like a fairy tale!
When you hear or see the number 707 you think of an airplane rather than a street. But in the south of Namibia, on the edge of the Namib-Naukluft on one side and the Tiras Mountains on the other, a pad with this number leads through a wonderfully beautiful area.
Twenty kilometers after Betta, where we spent the night in a simple camp, the D 707 branches off first west and then south. We have already driven this route a few times, but we are always looking forward to this drive. We crossed a couple of dry rivers before the track got sandy. On our left we looked into the dark Tiras Mountains; to our right stretched reddish dunes, which were overgrown with grass almost up to the ridge. That it had rained heavily here a few weeks ago could still be clearly seen.
We enjoyed being out alone. apart from the oryx and zebras which crossed our way! Oncoming traffic is practically non-existent here unless a farmer is on the road. Or a local who wants to spend Easter in Swakopmund and is on his way there. After a good hour we came across a notice board at the edge of the road. We turned left and reached the Koiimasis Farm twenty kilometers later.
PS. We didn’t have a reservation and knew that there were only four campsites on the farm. But in times of Corona there is a good chance that you will find space. And that’s the way it was!
