From August 30th to September 2nd, 2023 the 10th Alphorn Days take place in Kandersteg. They were originally created to liven up the quiet period of August. Something that is hardly necessary today, because Kandersteg has developed into a place that tourists from all over the world like to visit.

We love the alphorn; and if we hear the melancholic sound somewhere, then we get goosebumps. Probably no other musical instrument is as synonymous with Switzerland and the Swiss Alps as the alphorn. When we heard the sounds of the alphorn on Friday evening, September 1st, 2023, we were magically drawn to the place where they were in action. That was that evening in the garden of the Hotel Alfa Soleil, which is right across from our chalet.

We only had to take a few steps and we were already standing where four experts were blowing the alphorn. For the next half hour, we listened to the sounds and were amazed at how versatile an alphorn can sound. Sometimes it sounded Swiss, sometimes jazzy, sometimes funky and once like a didgeridoo sounds in Australia. No wonder that reminded us of the time when we traveled the red continent for almost two years.
