That tastes wonderful!
When we gave asylum to the two birdies that had fallen out of the nest, we didn’t know what to expect. If so, we might have let nature take its course. But we should have gone on living with a guilty conscience; we didn’t want that.
Brigitta found out on the web what is important. A comfortable home is central so we bought a nice cage. Brigitta lovingly «furnished» it, which the two young sparrows appreciated with happy chirping. Since young birds always have to be nice and warm, they were given a hot water bottle that Brigitta installed on the floor of the cage. At first the two were afraid when Brigitta took them in hand to feed mealworms, egg white and a paste from the pipette. With a small brush she gives them water. Meanwhile they are sitting on the wooden poles waiting to be fed.
We can’t leave the two sparrows alone – that would be too risky, since our kitten lives in the same house. So we took them with us when we drove to Omaruru for a birthday party..
PS. When I was looking for a suitable name for the sparrows, I quickly found what I was looking for. We christened one «Piep»; the other «Matz». They seem to like the names! («Piepmatz» in German means birdie!)
