Love is in the Air!
A few days after my birthday we changed our location once more. The destination was Swakopmund, which we reached this time via Uis and Hentiesbay. It went downhill – between Omaruru and Swakopmund there is an altitude difference of 1,200 meters. And there was a strong east wind blowing, so I hardly had to press the gas pedal.
The closer we got to the coast, the stronger the wind blew. And that brings not only high temperatures – over 40 ° C on the coast – but also a lot of sand. The first night we experienced a veritable storm that put sand on everything that was not protected from the wind. But we didn’t come to the coast to experience a sandstorm, but to do a dolphin tour from Walvis Bay.
We started the tour in the harbor basin of Walvis Bay. It went past oil rigs, deep-sea fishing trawlers and container ships that were in the harbour. Then we chugged along the coast to the lighthouse. We saw many dolphins and seals. But unfortunately, no humpback whales, which are currently swimming past the coast of Namibia on their way to Antarctica.
PS. The excursion will also remain unforgettable because we were served oysters and sparkling wine on the way back. To Brigitta’s delight, a young sea lion heaved himself on board and snuggled comfortably on her lap …
