THROUGH THE CHOLEREN GORGE

Only for the Daring!

After the hikes in the Kandertal we made a detour to the nearby Engstligental a few days ago. The morning was fantastically beautiful and just right for this excursion. We drove to Frutigen and turned there into the Engstligental. The road to Adelboden was a lot curvier than the one to Kandersteg. Signs on the side of the road pointed out that avalanches also rush into the valley here in winter.

A few kilometers before Adelboden we reached our destination. We parked our vehicle under the shade of a tree, strapped our backpacks onto our backs, and followed the path that led us to the entrance to the choleren gorge. For the next hour we climbed higher and higher on narrow footbridges and spiral staircases. We passed imposing waterfalls and looked into huge water mills. It’s unbelievable how the Tschentbach dug itself into the rocks over thousands of years! No wonder this gorge is one of the wildest in the Bernese Oberland.

Before we returned to Kandersteg, we made a detour to Adelboden, where the mineral water of the same name is bottled. We recently read that this source should be adopted by the Chinese. Fortunately, five Swiss athletes had something against it and got involved as investors! A good reason for us to only drink Adelbodner mineral water in the future and to avoid Chinese products wherever possible!

PS. If you want to know who now owns the Adelbodner mineral spring, read here.
