An unforgettable evening in the city of Mozart!
What could be more obvious than attending a Mozart concert on a rainy Sunday evening? This took place in the Marble Hall of the Mirabell Palace; Brigitta had already organized the tickets for this a few days in advance. (Who doesn’t think of Mirabell as the sweet fruit we call Mirabelle in Switzerland?)
The castle and its beautiful garden have nothing to do with this fruit. Mirabell is composed of mirabile (admirable) and bella (beautiful). The castle and the associated garden more than deserve this name. Just a pity that we walked the garden under an umbrella because of the heavy rain – the many different colored tulips hung their heads sadly.
At 7:30 pm we climbed up the wide marble staircase to the Marble Hall. A major fire in the city in 1818 severely damaged the castle; however, the hall and the marble staircase remained almost undamaged. Shortly before 8 pm, the hall where VIPs get married was opened and we took a seat. For the next hour and a half, we listened to five violin, viola and violoncello musicians – an unforgettable experience!
PS. Archbishop Wolfgang Dietrich had Mirabell Palace and the garden built for his beloved mistress at the beginning of the 17th century.
