Spring time is flower time!
During our walks through Kandersteg, we are always amazed at how many beautiful chalets (*) there are here. In contrast to Interlaken, where no attention has been paid (or too late) to the village’s appearance, in Kandersteg, care is taken to avoid becoming a concrete jungle.
Not everything is rosy here either. But on our walks through the village, we are always amazed at how nice the houses along the main street look. It’s even more beautiful when the garden in front of the house looks like this in spring!
(*) This is what Wikipedia says on the subject: «The chalet is a rural house type common in the Alpine region. Chalets are either largely made entirely of wood (beech, spruce, oak, Swiss stone pine) or at least have wooden cladding. A typical chalet is a flat gable roof with a wide overhang. In some Swiss municipalities, e.g., Lenk, Grindelwald, Saanen, and Zermatt, only chalets are permitted to be built. The reason given for this requirement is “to preserve the typical character of the local building style” in order to prevent so-called architectural sins».
