Chateau Carton: A practical travel companion
There are around 3,000 châteaus in Bordeaux. Including famous ones like Château d’Yquem, Château Pauillac or Château Cheval Blanc. We value these wines very much and in earlier times, when we were both still making money, we enjoyed drinking them on special occasions. Or we got them served by wine connoisseurs from our circle of friends …
If you are traveling with a vehicle, you don’t have a wine cellar. In addition, the storage of bottled wine is a problem. If the bottle breaks, the inside of the vehicle smells like a wine cellar. Not to mention the stains that red wine makes. So, what do you do if you don’t want to go without a glass of wine for dinner?
Quite simply: you switch to Château Carton. This is what is known as «Bag-in-Box» packaging, consisting of an inner bag made of composite film material (e.g., aluminum or polyethylene) that is mechanically supported and protected by corrugated cardboard. This type of packaging was invented in 1955 as a liquid container by William R. Scholle. (Source Wikipedia)

PS. We first heard the expression «Château Carton» from our retired tropical doctors in Switzerland. And we find it apt!
