A MINI LEOPARD

Small is Beautiful!

We now know that the farms in Namibia are bigger than here in Switzerland. So, we were not surprised to hear that the Koiimasis farm, on which the lodge of the same name is located, covers an area of 18,000 square kilometers. Twelve thousand of them are suitable for raising cattle; the rest of the area is in the Tiras Mountains. The grass grows only sparsely here and each cattle needs four square kilometers to put on meat.

From a distance we could hear the cackling of the ducks and chickens. We parked in the shade of a large camel thorn tree and made our way to the reception. We couldn’t believe our eyes when we saw a dwarf-sized leopard lying on the ground. Anke, the farmer’s wife then explained to us that it was a Bengal cat that she bred. The next litter will be born soon …

PS. We would love to have a serval or a cheetah as a house cat. But in a pinch, we are also satisfied with a Bengal cat! We already have the name for it: Savannah!
