AN OPEN AIR FESTIVAL AT 2,362 METERS

Let's rock!

If you think that there is nothing going on in the Kandertal and that foxes and rabbits say good night here, you are mistaken. There are not only wrestling festivals, yodeling evenings and Hornussen – no, there are also Open-Air Festivals. One of them, the highest located in Switzerland, took place from 10.-12. August 2023 on the Niesen mountain.

The evening began when we got into a red wagon at the valley station of the Niesen-Train. It is designed in such a way that it can climb gradients of almost 70% without the passengers falling over. The ride on this cable car is a very special experience. We changed at the Schwandegg middle station at 1670 meters and continued to the Niesen summit. There are not only telecom converters up there, but also a sign for the Grand Tour of Switzerland. And of course, a Swiss flag fluttering in the wind. The Bernese Oberland valleys, Lake Thun and Lake Brienz lay at our feet. And to the east we saw the majestic chain of the Alps with the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau! What a view!

At 7 pm., Riana, a singer-songwriter from Appenzell, opened the musical part of the evening. After an hour she was replaced by the High South, a classic rock band from Florida, USA. As the sun went down crimson and turned the peaks of the snowy mountains red, it got chilly. But we didn’t feel that because we were dancing and singing – at almost 2,400 meters above sea level. What an evening! What an experience!
