Go-Away Bird!
If we didn’t like animals, and especially large animals, then we would hardly have bought a holiday home in Swakopmund, Namibia. Here the wilderness is practically on your doorstep. The famous Etosha National Park is a day’s journey away. The wilder Khaudum can be reached in a two-day trip. If we «just» want to see springboks, Egyptian geese and hyenas, then we can go to the golf course. (A few years ago, an elephant even showed up, but unfortunately, we missed it.)
However, over the years we have also become more and more bird lovers. In our small garden there are three yellow-barked acacias that the birds use to build their nests. But the sparrows, gray lorries, weaver birds and especially lovebirds also use the food on offer. Since Brigitta put up a bird house and regularly puts out food there, we often feel as if we live in an aviary. It whistles and sings and croaks that it is a joy. (As beautiful as the lovebirds look, as loud are their vocal organs!) We are also grateful that the gray lorries (Go-Away-Bird) have not yet definitely settled in our garden. They are the loudest of all and its reputation is not in vain.
