Gentians in full bloom!
When we returned from the Zurich region, to the beautiful Bernese Oberland in April, we noticed that spring is coming up here with a few weeks delay. When trees and bushes are in bloom in the lowlands, there is still nothing to be seen of this splendor in Kandersteg. And when the strawberries are harvested in the lowlands, the strawberry plants here begin to bear flowers.
However, when the days get warmer and longer in May, the mountain spring begins. The alpine meadows are then covered with flowers of all colors. What a splendor! And what a sweet smell when you walk across these meadows. Higher up, at around 2,000 meters above sea level, the beautiful gentians grow!
The only thing we haven’t seen yet is Edelweiss. But we saw them in Kyrgyzstan! When we traveled this country in autumn 2013, we drove over meadows that were covered with these beautiful flowers! (The Edelweiss originally comes from Kyrgyzstan!)
