Rock-Pool at Hoada Campsite
On the second day we were the only tourists staying at the Palmwag Lodge. The two employees in the restaurant were delighted that we ate with them both evenings. We did too, because the Palmwag Hamburger tasted excellent. And the beer too …
On January 22nd, 2021 we set out on our journey. Shortly after Palmwag, a collection of a few huts, we turned towards Outjo and the Grootberg Pass. At 1,580 meters, it is one of the higher passes in Namibia. It went even steeper and higher up to the Grootberg Lodge, which is managed by the local community and thus creates jobs and training opportunities for the locals. We drank a Roiibos tea on the terrace and enjoyed the great view into the Klip Valley before we clambered down again in the first low gear.
25 kilometers to the east we came across the Hoada Campsite, embedded in a great landscape with huge granite boulders. You can hardly spend the night more beautiful than here! We had the small pool, embedded in huge granite blocks, to ourselves! Like the campsite too!
PS. «Thank you for the rain!», said the clerk when we said goodbye this morning. It had rained all night; the locals were eagerly waiting for it.
