NIGHTLIFE IN BOTSWANA

Thunderstorm at the Chobe River

On Friday, October 13th, 2023 (a lucky day!) we set off after breakfast. We fed the cat one last time, we named her Crunchy because she likes the dry food so much and set off for KM (Katima Mulilo). There we renewed the road permit for Namibia – this is checked when you leave Namibia.

After shopping and trying to exchange larger US$ notes* for smaller ones, we set course for Botswana. (*In Zimbabwe, due to dizzying inflation, the Kwacha has been replaced by the US$. If you only have large notes, then there is the risk of not getting any change or a few kilos of kwacha back that no one wants!) After an hour, Brigitta came with enough small US$ notes – we will try to get more in Kasane.

After passing the Ngoma Bridge over the Chobe, we completed the border formalities on the Namibian and then on the Botswanan side. Twentytwo kilometers later we reached Mwandi View Camp, which was recommended to us. Here we experienced the first severe thunderstorm yesterday evening – the rainy season is approaching. We woke up at two in the morning to the roar of a lion and the trumpeting of elephants. The nightlife in Botswana is different than that in Zurich – it is more interesting!
