GOOD FISHING!

What a catch!

Namibia is not the country for bathing pleasures! The country borders 1,572 kilometers coast from Oranjemund, on the border with South Africa, to the Kunene, which forms the border with Angola. However, the cold Benguela current ensures that the water temperature rarely rises above 16 °C, (60.8 °F) even in summer. Who would want to swim in the sea at these temperatures?

Fish, however, love the cool water off the coast of Namibia. It is not for nothing that fishing and aquaculture play an important economic role in the state budget. (According to Wikipedia, more than 500,000 tons of fish were caught in 2017/18; aquaculture brought it to 1,500 tons of fish and seafood.)

Fishing is also a favorite hobby of the locals. There is hardly a 4×4 vehicle on the coast whose bumper does not have a device for transporting large fishing rods. A four-wheel drive vehicle also makes sense here because sometimes you have to drive through deep sand along the coast, where the good fishing spots are. Dennis and Florian, two young men whose parents we are friends with, did this some days ago . And they brought home some fine specimens as you can see…

PS. Cods are currently migrating northwards along the Namibian coast in large numbers. Four of them, all over a meter long, were catched by Dennis and Florian south of Walvis Bay. Well done!
