True Affection!
It’s been a month since we took Piep and Matz in with us. In the meantime, they have gained plumage and weight. But they don’t seem to be thinking about leaving yet. They always return to the cage, which we leave open – at least when our cat isn’t around! But who can blame them? If I had free board and lodging, I would stay at home as well. Even more when you are cared for like Brigitta does with the two of them. If she comes close to the two young sparrows, they start flapping their wings and chirping like mad. Brigitta has definitely become a sparrow mother.
She talks to them. She caresses them. She feeds them and lets Piep, who is the cheekier of the two, do a daily dental check. When it gets cooler in the evening, the two of them snuggle up in Brigitta’s gray fleece jacket, where it’s cozy and warm. I don’t think the two of them could be any better off than with us! So why should they fly away?
PS. I’m getting jealous! Piep and Matz occupy Brigitta from morning to night! And there’s also the kitten with whom I share the bed and Brigitta at night…
