WHAT DOES HOT MEAN?

Temperatures are going high and higher!

We always have to smile when we hear our compatriots (in this case Swiss) complain about the «high temperatures» at home. If the thermometer shows just over 30° C in summer, then the groaning begins. And when it’s 20° C cooler, the moaning starts again. But it should be admitted: At the moment even, we are moaning about the high temperatures.

We knew that the hottest temperatures occur in September and October in Namibia and Botswana. But we also know that you can see the most animals at this time of year because they are irresistibly drawn to the watering holes before the rainy season. And we are used to high temperatures from our travels; in Ethiopia, in the Dallol Depression, they often reach 60° C! (Nowhere on our travels have we suffered from the heat as much as there!)

But back to the topic: It’s currently hot in the north-east of Namibia; and it hasn’t gotten any cooler in Botswana. If Brigitta sleeps topless, that’s a clear sign. And when she puts the sleeping bag on the seat – like she did last night – then it’s hot: a look at the thermometer a few days ago confirmed this to us. Last night’s thunderstorm brought some relief; but the humidity has increased – we’re sweating quietly…

PS: If you want to know more about the temperatures in Katima, where we were a few days ago, look here.
