4x4 to reach Camp Aussicht!
After four days we left the Omarunga Lodge on the Kunene and took a south course towards Opuwo, which we reached three hours later via a good gravel road. This place with around 7,000 inhabitants is the administrative center of the Kunene region. Mainly Hereros and Himbas live here. What a difference between the two ethnic groups! The Herero women in their colored costumes and the fancy headscarf that looks like a cow horn. Next to them are the Himba, whose women go topless and wear leather loincloths – the men tend to be dressed in jeans and T-shirts. An extreme contrast. Opuwo itself has become bigger, but not more beautiful: More residents = more waste!
Around 70 kilometers after Opuwo we came across a sign pointing to the Camp Aussicht, which is located on a range of hills. «4×4 only» – a route exactly to our taste. I switched on the four-wheel drive first and later also the reduction gear. We climbed through a dry river bed and then up the hill where Marius, a German Namibian, lives. We arrived at Camp Aussicht with a 360 ° panorama view and deserved a refreshment …
PS. Marius is the owner of the Dioptaz mine, in which semi-precious stones with a bluish color are extracted. Since yesterday, a small on is now owned by Brigitta!
