There are many beautiful lakes in the Kandersteg area: for example, the lake Oeschinen, one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in Switzerland. Then the picturesque Arvensee; or the Blausee with its trout. And then of course there is Lake Thun, which is only twenty minutes away from Kandersteg. It begins in Thun and ends in famous Interlaken, which is on the bucket list of thousands of tourists and is accordingly flooded with visitors from all over the world every summer. (The residents of Interlaken speak of overtourism; a problem that not only large cities but also holiday resorts in Switzerland have!)

A few days ago, we were in Spiez, a gem of a village, nestled on the shores of Lake Thun. Here we met with uncles, aunts, cousins ​​and siblings for an extended lunch. This sunny day couldn’t have been nicer: we were sitting in a restaurant that was right on the lake. Once again, we were amazed at the clear water – you get the impression that you could drink it without harm.

No wonder that Namibian friends who ride the Grand Tour of Switzerland on Harley Davidsons spoke enthusiastically about our country when they visited us in Kandersteg. It’s true: Switzerland is a beautiful country – let’s take care of it!
