LIKE ROBINSON CRUSOE: MOTU PISCINE

Feeling like Robinson Crusoe!

A Motu is a small island within the reef with palm trees and pandanus bushes. In the case of Raivavae, this extends around the entire island. Within this lagoon lies the enchanting Motu Piscine. («Piscine», French, stands for swimming pool.)

At the landing stage was waiting a man on board for us, who was actually wearing a mask! A mask? On a motorboat where you are surrounded by fresh sea air! We made it far in the times of Covid 19. (The Chinese have taken us far with their virus!) For better or worse, we pulled the mask – we always have one with us – over nose and mouth.

Then we went on board and we set course for the Motu, which is located less than a kilometer away. It was low tide when we moored on a small sand bank. First, we took off the mask; then we waded to the island on foot. For the next four hours we felt like Robinson Crusoe. Not even Friday was there! We were all alone!

PS. The Motu Piscine is the absolute highlight on Raivavae. And we experienced it at the most beautiful weather! Tomorrow we will fly via Tahiti to Rurutu, which also belongs to the Austral Archipelago. The whales are waiting there for us!
