VINES ON THE EDGE OF THE NAMIB DESERT

What a Tasting!

The Neuras winery is only eighty kilometers from Sesriem, on the edge of the Naukluft Mountains and in the foothills of the Namib Desert. We visited it for the first time twenty years ago. Another visit was due now!

After a stop at the Tsauchab River Lodge, where we had a coffee and bought some good, homemade bread, we drove on. The D 850 led us through a charming but barren landscape; One would not necessarily think of viticulture. And then the Neuras Winery sign popped up. We drove past the vines covered with nets to the reception.

The next hour we let it go well. Rebecca served us a cheese platter and put four bottles of red wine on the table for tasting. Including one that was labeled SMG. Rebecca explained to us that this is an assemblage of Shiraz, Merlot and Grenache. It tasted delicious. The Shiraz tasted even more delicious. And the blue cheese with it was a poem …

PS. We clinked glasses to life and our friends all over the world. So that we can repeat that in a few days, we bought a bottle of Shiraz …
