AN AFRICAN ROAD BLOCK!

No getting through here!

During our travels we have experienced a number of roadblocks where armed police or military officers stood on the street and asked us to stop. For example, in Colombia, where the FARC was still active in 2008. Or in Mexico, where bored cops made fun of searching our vehicle. Or in Russia, where poorly paid police officers wanted to supplement their meager wages…

A few days ago, we experienced a very special kind of roadblock on the morning game drive from Fort Namutoni to the Andoni Plain. One that can only happen in southern Africa. There was actually a mighty elephant standing in front of us, blocking our way. What do you do in such a situation? You wait until the pachyderm decides to clear the way. He did the same after about five minutes and after he had looked at the two Swiss with much interest…

PS. If you want to experience such a rendezvous, the best thing to do is go on a game drive through this beautiful national park in northern Namibia.
