STOPOVER AT CAMP CORNIE

A place to relax!

After a few unforgettable days in Etosha, where we not only met many animals but also Sonja and her family in the Olifantrus Camp, we left the national park on May 3, 2021, on the west side, at the Galton Gate.

Gabi drove with us, who wanted to test not only herself, but also her vehicle structure. At 80 km / h we drove towards Ruacana, which is 240 kilometers further north, on the Kunene, the border river between Angola and Namibia. We camped at the Eha Lodge  which we knew from our first visit. In the evening the two ladies treated themselves to a 300 g Madagascar rump steak; I contented myself with a hake.

The next morning we continued towards Epupa Falls, where the clay-brown Kunene plunges forty meters. The D 3700 led us through an area inhabited by the Himba people. They live in simple round huts and are considered the last (semi)nomadic people of Namibia. It was important to take care of the many children, because they run – as soon as they hear the engine noise – in the direction of the slopes. Their «sweets, sweets» calls can be heard from afar.

PS. We stopped at beautifully located Camp Cornie, where we spent already two nights in January 2021. Cornie, the owner, died unexpectedly of heart failure a few weeks ago. Farewell Cornie!
