GETTING A TASTE OF HEAVEN IN PIEDMONT

Bacchus would be happy here!

I don’t know who invented the saying «Eat like God in France». But what is certain is that this contemporary has never been to Italy! What is served in Piedmont – whether in a simple restaurant or in a gourmet temple – is simply fantastic. Even God’s mouth is watering…

Piedmont is not only known for its excellent wines (e.g., Barolo, Barbaresco and Barbera) but also for its truffles. (I would, however, swap these for a piece of Parmigiano or a few slices of Crudo di Cuneo – but to each his own!)

According to the motto: «One should celebrate the festivals as they come» we had a great time during our stay. It started with our hotel, which is located above Barbaresco and offers a view of snowy mountains, vineyards and the village. Good restaurants were within walking distance or just a few kilometers away. (I still don’t know where the alcohol limit is for drivers in Italy!). Every evening we treated ourselves to a different specialty, accompanied by a suitable wine from the region.

And then the desserts: Panna cotta, Torta di nocciole, Tira misù, Formaggi misti! And finally, a Grappa – usually offered by the house. (Speaking of prices: an espresso costs € 2.00 in a **** restaurant; a glass of Arneis with the starter € 3.00)

PS. On the last evening we were guests in the Restaurant Rabaya. It’s worth taking a look at the menu and in the wine cellar!
