MARKET DAY IN ALBA

Hazelnuts, hazelnuts, hazelnuts...

Barbaresco is just ten kilometers from Alba, a town with close to 30,000 inhabitants in Piedmont. It is surrounded by vineyards, orchards and hazelnut plantations. (After Turkey, Italy is the largest supplier of hazelnuts). What makes this area even more likeable is the fact that it is also home to Ferrero: Mon Chérie, Ferrero Rocher and Nutella.

For once, however, we weren’t out for sweets or the famous Truffle, but for Crudo di Cuneo, Parmigiano and Nocciole. We learned from Elisa that all this and much more can be bought at the Saturday market in Alba. So, after an espresso, we set off.

Finding a parking space was difficult that day because the Rallye de Alba was also taking place at the same time. Already on the way to Alba we could hear engines roaring and tires squeaking. Finally, we found a free parking space. For the next two hours we strolled through the old town of Alba and from stand to stand. We returned with a large bag full of Piedmontese delicacies.

PS. This Saturday we saw how enthusiastic the Italians are about cars. And here you can see and hear the Rallye de Alba.
